Summary: Renzo Piano, a world-renowned Italian-born architect has worked, designed, built, dreamt and taught around the globe. He is the recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the Kyoto Prize, the Sonning Prize and the AIA Gold Medal. Perhaps his most famous architectural design is the George Pompidou Centre in Paris, but he is also known for his Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, the New York Times Building in Manhattan, the California Academy of Sciences re-build in San Francisco, and the Parco della Musica in Rome. This first organic collection of the work of Renzo Piano thoroughly examines and perhaps corrects the image he has in the world at large. Looking over a twenty-year time span, we see in Piano's work a picture of differentiated experiences based on a coherent line of research. The book takes the form of a catalog, and for this reason is arranged in three parts: a collection of short essays, a critical illustrative review and a systematic text.
