Summary: The film consists of eight chapters: I. Method, II. Genius loci, III. Memory, IV. Construction, V. Material, VI. Atmosphere, VII. Intuition, VIII. Beauty
Peter Zumthor has often talked about his work and his understanding of his role as an architect over past thirty years. Here we encounter the architect of the Kunsthaus Bregenz in a collage film comprising interviews, conversations, talks, and panel discussions. Some of these stem from the early days of his career, while others were recorded specially for the film. The various clips were chosen to highlight the central ideas and themes in Thumthor's work that have made him the exceptional architect he is. The chronological continuum spans three decades, allowing viewers to get to know the person behind the name Peter Zumthor-a person who has changed over the years, yet somehow remained the same. Authentic, grounded, and passionate, he responds to the interviewers' questions by expanding on his positions. Viewers thus gain a glimpse into the workings of a mind that is at once sensitive and persistent, and always bound by a powerful inner compass and code of ethics.
